Day One: Kampala to Lake Mburo - Overcoming Obstacles and Embracing Adventure

Day one of our Uganda and Rwanda motorcycle tour began with high spirits and eager anticipation as we set out from Kampala towards our first destination, Lake Mburo National Park. However, as fate would have it, a flat tire on our luggage truck caused a slight delay with the truck falling behind. But as seasoned adventurers, we knew that the show must go on.

Despite the setback, we made the most of our time, enjoying the scenic ride and making a brief rest stop at Uganda Equator. Of course, no adventure is complete without the obligatory Instagram photos to capture the moment.

Eventually, we arrived at Lake Mburo National Park around lunchtime, ready to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the wilderness. However, one final obstacle stood in our path - a small water crossing that had unexpectedly formed due to recent heavy rains in Uganda. But with teamwork and determination, we navigated through it without a hitch, keeping both ourselves and our bikes dry.

With the last hurdle conquered, it was time to refuel both our bodies and our spirits. We gathered for a quick bite to eat and a few well-deserved beers before embarking on our first safari adventure in the park.

As we reflect on the events of the day, we're reminded of the resilience and camaraderie that define our motorcycle touring community. Despite the challenges we faced, we emerged stronger and more united, ready to embrace the adventures that lie ahead.

Day Two: From Lake Mburo to Kisoro - Riding Through Changing Landscapes

Day two of our Uganda and Rwanda motorcycle tour brought us from the serene landscapes of Lake Mburo to the enchanting destination of Kisoro. Despite a wet start and a small "puddle" obstacle, our spirits remained high as we geared up for another day of adventure on the road.

As we bid farewell to Lake Mburo, the scenery transformed before our eyes, transitioning from the open savannah to the breathtaking vistas of Virunga Mountains. The majestic beauty of Virunga Mountains served as a stunning backdrop to our journey, inspiring awe and wonder in all who beheld it.

Today was primarily a riding day as we made our way towards Kisoro, our resting place for the night. With a big day ahead tomorrow, including our eagerly anticipated gorilla trek and crossing into Rwanda, we took the opportunity to soak in the sights and sounds of the African landscape.

As the sun began to set on another day of adventure, we found ourselves filled with anticipation for the experiences that awaited us in the days to come. From the thrill of encountering mountain gorillas up close to the excitement of crossing into Rwanda, our journey through Uganda and Rwanda promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.

Day Three: Gorilla Encounters and Crossing Borders

Day three of our Uganda and Rwanda motorcycle tour marked a milestone as we embarked on an unforgettable journey to see the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. With anticipation running high, we set out on an early morning trek, ready to witness one of nature's most awe-inspiring spectacles.

The experience of encountering the mountain gorillas up close was nothing short of extraordinary - a moment etched in our memories forever. As we observed these magnificent creatures in their serene mountain surroundings, we couldn't help but feel a profound sense of awe and gratitude.

After bidding farewell to the mountain gorillas, we continued our journey towards Rwanda, crossing borders with excitement and anticipation for the adventures that awaited us in this beautiful country.

As the day drew to a close, we arrived at our destination for the evening: Lake Kivu. With the day's challenges behind us and a sense of accomplishment in our hearts, we gathered to celebrate with well-deserved beers, toasting to the incredible experiences shared on this journey so far.

Looking ahead, tomorrow brings a rest day - a chance for our guests to recharge and unwind amidst the stunning scenery of Lake Kivu. Whether it's exploring the local area, relaxing by the water's edge, or simply enjoying each other's company, tomorrow promises to be a day of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Day Four: Rest and Preparation in Lake Kivu

As the sun rises over Lake Kivu, day four of our Uganda and Rwanda motorcycle tour brings a well-deserved rest day for our adventurous travellers. While our guests immerse themselves in the beauty of Lake Kivu, taking in its sights and sounds, our dedicated team behind the scenes continues to ensure that every aspect of our journey runs smoothly.

While our guests explore the wonders of Lake Kivu, our guides, Joseph and Jordan, along with our tour mechanic, Sula, are hard at work preparing for the next leg of our journey. With just two days until we head back into Uganda, there's no time to waste. The bikes and backup truck receive thorough inspections and maintenance, ensuring that they're ready to tackle whatever the road may bring.

Despite the hustle and bustle of preparations, there's still plenty of time for our guests to relax and enjoy the tranquility of Lake Kivu. Whether lounging in a hammock by the water's edge or sipping on a refreshing beverage at a lakeside café, there's no shortage of ways to unwind and soak in the stunning scenery.

As the day winds down and the sun dips below the horizon, we gather once again to reflect on the experiences of our journey so far. With memories made and friendships forged, we look forward to the adventures that lie ahead as we continue our exploration of Uganda and Rwanda.

Tomorrow, our journey takes us into Kigali, but for now, it's time to sit back, relax, and savor the beauty of Lake Kivu. As the stars twinkle overhead and the gentle lapping of the waves lulls us to sleep, we're filled with gratitude for the moments of peace and tranquility that this rest day has brought.

Day Five: From Lake Kivu to Kigali - A Dance in the Rain

Day five of our Uganda and Rwanda motorcycle tour brought unexpected excitement as we bid farewell to the serene shores of Lake Kivu and set our sights on the vibrant city of Kigali. However, our journey was briefly interrupted by a run-in with the local constabulary.

As we made our way through the countryside, enjoying the open road and breathtaking scenery, we encountered a roadside checkpoint manned by the local police. With flashing lights and a stern-faced officer, it was a momentary pause in our adventure. After a brief chat and ensuring all paperwork was in order, we were soon back on the road, our spirits undampened and our journey continuing unabated.

Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, our intrepid travelers refused to let a little rain dampen their spirits. With helmets securely fastened and rain gear at the ready, we pressed on towards our destination: Kigali, the bustling capital city of Rwanda.

Upon arriving in Kigali, our guests wasted no time in shaking off the raindrops and hitting the town. Despite the grim weather, the city's vibrant energy and warm hospitality welcomed us with open arms. Tonight, our adventurers are donning their dancing shoes and venturing out into the night, ready to immerse themselves in Kigali's lively nightlife scene.

As the rhythm of the music fills the air and laughter echoes through the streets, we're reminded once again of the joy that comes from embracing the unexpected and seizing every moment of our journey. Rain or shine, the spirit of adventure lives on, and we're ready to dance our way through whatever challenges come our way.

Day Six: Reflecting on History and Resting in Kigali

Day six of our Uganda and Rwanda motorcycle tour brought a somber yet poignant pause in our journey as we spent the day in Kigali, Rwanda. While the sun rose over the bustling city, our focus shifted from the thrill of the road to the weighty significance of history.

In the morning, our guests embarked on a visit to the genocide museum, a solemn and powerful place of remembrance. Here, amidst the haunting exhibits and somber memorials, we paid tribute to the victims of the Rwandan genocide while also bearing witness to the resilience of the Rwandan people. It was a humbling experience that left an indelible mark on our hearts, serving as a reminder of the importance of promoting reconciliation and peace in a world scarred by conflict.

As the afternoon unfolded, we took time to reflect and recharge, knowing that a challenging riding day awaited us tomorrow as we prepared to cross back into Uganda. With the weight of history still heavy on our minds, we found solace in the quiet moments of introspection, finding strength in the bonds of camaraderie forged on this journey.

As the sun set over Kigali, casting its golden rays upon the city streets, we carried with us the memories of the day's experiences and the lessons they imparted. Tomorrow, we'll once again mount our bikes and hit the road, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead with renewed resolve and a deeper appreciation for the journey we're on.

As the morning rain poured down, threatening to dampen our spirits, we seized the opportunity to indulge in a leisurely morning, sheltered from the elements. However, adventure called, and soon we found ourselves venturing out for an unexpected canoe ride on the serene waters. Surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the lake, we shared the waters with resident hippos, who graciously shared their domain with us.

Today, on day ten of our journey, we set our sights on Murchison Falls, our penultimate destination. The road ahead was long but exhilarating, with twists and turns that would rival those of a Grand Prix circuit.
